Salt & Pepper Halloumi with Chilli Jam Glaze

Ingredients

  • 1 block of halloumi cheese

  • 30g cornflour

  • 1 tsp of salt

  • 1 tsp of pepper

  • 1 tsp of Chinese five spice

  • 100ml of vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil 

  • 3 spring onions sliced 

  • 1 red chilli thinly sliced 

  • 2 crushed garlic gloves

  • 1 tbsp of The Long Dog Chilli Jam

Recipe

  • Mix together the cornflour, salt, pepper and Chinese five spice into a bowl.

  • Cut the halloumi into chunky pieces and then coat them in the flour mixture and place to one side.

  • In a separate bowl mix the crushed garlic, the sliced spring onions and chilli. 

  • You will now need two frying pans. In one pan add the 100ml of oil (this is for shallow frying your halloumi) and to another pan add a table spoon of vegetable oil and let both pans get hot. (this is for your chilli mix) 

  • Carefully place the halloumi into the pan with the 100ml of hot oil and carefully cook each side until golden brown (3-4 min), take them out and place them onto paper towel to drain excess oil. 

  • In the other pan, cook the chilli mix for 1-2 minutes and then stir in the chilli jam, quickly stir so it doesn't stick to the pan once this has began to coat the pan, now place the halloumi into the pan and coat with the chilli mix.

  • Once the halloumi is coated, you are ready to serve!

These work great as a starter, or why not try adding them to a wrap!
